Bridal Showcase: Élan

Following TONI&GUY’s t
rend show was a solo bridal showcase by Élan with her collection titled ‘Gold Dust’.  With an emphasis on fluid silhouettes, shirts and jackets glided along the form allowing movement and agility. Where the bodice or torso was structured, the look was softened with flow and volume at the hemline. The three-piece bridal ensembles were regal and richly embellished and included long jackets and tops with trailing backs paired with elaborately embroidered izaars and farshi sharara’s along with Grecian-like draped ensembles, Kimono styled jackets with sleek ankle grazers and a traditional kali angarakha with a kali luckhnowi gharara. For Gold Dust, designer Khadijah Shah created custom motifs with the interplay of thread embroidery along with metal and crystal work delving into the extensive library of Sub-Continental, Central Asian and Oriental patterns to create a unique blend of embellishment. The pieces were pre-dominantly crafted in net and silk, embroidered with thread and gold spun floral motifs, gemmed butterflies and birds, crusted jewels and sparkling sprays of sequins, crystal and pearls. Gold Dust was based in a wide range of colours; the customary burgundy and ivory run into the on-trend jewel toned indigo’s and emeralds and an array of pastels, essential to any wedding collection.
Élan is a fashion label launched eight years ago by Khadijah Shah. She is respected for her combination of intricate embellishments, flattering silhouettes and attention to detail in the construction of each outfit. Indeed each collection is conceived with glamour, elegance and versatility in mind. Khadijah Shah inherited her design aesthetic from her mother Aneela Shah, who had a small atelier and a loyal clientele for many years before Élan was formerly launched. In a short span of six years, Khadijah has formalised and expanded the label and created an effective and influential place for Élan in the fashion industry. Élan showcased her bridal collection at PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week 2012.

Bridal Showcase: Layla Chatoor

Layla Chatoor marked her bridal debut ramp showcase at PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week 2012 with her collection, ‘The Queens Jewels’ - celebrating the bride as a queen on her special day. The inspiration behind the designs was the intricately worked filigree as seen in the Queens tiaras with scroll motifs set against the brilliance of diamonds reflected through the cutwork collection. The necklaces encrusted with emeralds, rubies and sapphires was depicted in the gemstone collection, and the artisanal brooches set in mother of pearls on a bed of pure white and silver brought about the mother of pearl collection. All this placed on a bed of warm apricots, rust, maroons, rich pinks, exotic golds and icy turquoises mixed with plums and aubergines gave the collection a timelessly elegant yet modern looking aesthetic. The silhouette, by depicting long, lounging and voluminous cuts like the Queens opulent robes and gowns reflects grandeur for a modern experimental bride. Layla had used quality fabrics such as French chantilly lace, tulle and lamé, rich jamavars and brocades fused with innovative methods in embroidery and creative use of craftsmanship. Her hand crafted bridal couture was embellished in swarovski crystals, myuki beads, Japanese pearls, silver and gold thread and mukaish. Indeed this collection payed homage to all the artisans working day and night to create timeless original classics worthy of collecting and inheriting.
Established in 1994, the brand Layla Chatoor is known for her passionate creative aesthetics in her craft. With a philosophy of making each ensemble custom made, the brand strives to be innovative, current and relevant. With innovative and unique design and cuts, each piece at Layla Chatoor is created with painstaking research and development to discover new forms of technique in styling and embroidery. Under the umbrella of PFDC the brand has been able to sell its prét to a wider client base catering to Delhi most recently. The brand also stocks in Bangalore, Lahore and Karachi and made its PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week 2012 debut this October 2012.
